Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

"Having once been so high, humanity fell so low. What had once been dedicated to the soul was now dedicated to the sale." - John Kennedy Toole The location that suggests I've set the bar for my abysmally-low expectations of formulaic restaurant chains... a bit too high. Unimpressed, sirs.

This Chipotle gets good marks from me for serving me and my buddy right at closing time despite the fact they were obviously cleaning up. The burrito bowl was good and exactly what you'd expect -- it's a Chipotle! :)
(4)Deena H.
It's not an average chipotle. We have had undercooked chicken while eating here. We have had soggy chips while eating here. We have had very slow service with a line that is not that long while here. It's in Oak Park so you expect better but you are mistaken. The best part is that you can park in the garage behind this chipotle for under one hour for zero dollars. That way you can order your food, pay for it, sit down, eat it, then spit it out and make it back to your car without paying for parking. They need to step it up at this location that is so desperately in need of a new attitude and commitment to service. Street parking is scarce and usually for pay. There is no outside seating. The bathrooms I can't comment on as I can't remember.
(1)Tanya S.
Food is good. Parking and long lines at peak times are a hassle.
(3)Bex M.
Very tasty! And I don't care if they are a big chain, they are tasty and have great food! And they are working to end factoring farming by offering naturally raised chickens and pork! A great place to eat if you want a delicious burrito with a dose of social consciousness.
(4)Girish V.
No different from the numerous Chipotles I have frequented across the state. Same great burrito bol and chunky guac. Every single time. Service is also equally fast and marvelous.
(4)Aaron M.
Ok, it's a chain, so it's not the best Mexican food around, but it is decent. Good enough for me to frequent once every couple of months. I love the chips. They are salty and maybe slightly lime-flavored? Whatever they do to them, I can eat the whole bag in one sitting. The food is satisfying, both flavor wise and portion wise. You don't hear anyone complaining about leaving hungry.
(3)Ellen M.
OK, I know it's a big chain, I know they're owned by McDonald's, but I CAN'T HELP MYSELF - IT'S SO GOOD!!! Really, I'm working on it, but those tacos with the black beans, rice, corn salsa and avacado... I need them! Please help me save my soul.
(3)Luke T.
I could eat here everyday...Absolutely Love it!
(5)Victor S.
A tasteless, badly put together burrito. You'd have to be a fool to expect Chipotle to have a decent margarita, but I needed a fast one to deal with Joke Park. It was like salt water with a lime in it--the only time I've ever thrown booze away!
(1)Dug D.
I love chipotle. just not this one. they are almost always out of carnitas. i expect more from a "training" store
(1)Jessica P.
Huge Chipotle fan! My biggest complaint with this store is that the service is sometimes slow compared to other Chipotles. I do love a good steak burrito bowl with guac and chips... yum!
(4)Mike L.
Uh oh, back to 1 start again. Sucks to be me when I wanted a Salad bowl and I came to this Chipotle, and as usual, it was only 7:55 P.M., no romaine lettuce left for the salad bowl. I love parking, then waiting in line for 15 minutes, and not being told that they are out of lettuce until I order - that's so fun! Letting people in line know that they are OUT of something would be too considerate. I guess I am insane since I came to the same Chipotle on multiple occasions expecting different outcomes.
(1)Rocky N.
20 minute wait in line. They were out of steak. Another 20 minute wait after paying only to see them comp the meals of other people who had to wait too. Wont be coming here anymore.
(1)Frank n.
Go to another Chipotle! I've been to this location a few times and its continues to be a disappointment. Slow service and they skimp on meat and guacamole. Just got a bowl with guac to go and was offended by the amount they put on for an extra $1.95. Which has sparked this review. If you need a chipotle fix and can swing it, head to the one on Harlem and Cermak. Always happy with that location.
(1)Eric S.
Get the 'quesarito', they said. It'll be great, they said. You know what they didn't say? How much that motherfluffer costs. Since all they really do is melt some cheese pre-burrito assembly, I figured it'd be a dollar upcharge, maybe two at most. It was nearly $4 extra. I had heard about this 'wrapping your burrito in a cheese quesadilla' thing on some fast food hacks website so naturally I had to try it......never again. SO not worth the additional charge, like not even close. Also (and this isn't the fault of the location), they had no spicy shredded pork, which I get 99.9% of the time. There was a chain-wide shortage of barbacoa so I had to compromise with something less awesome. Were it not for the fact that I was warmly greeted as soon as I walked in, and Chipotle's typically carry not 1, not 2, but 3 different types of Tabasco (for which I'm very grateful), I'd be less forgiving with my rating.
(3)Naureen R.
I've never really understood the purpose of Chipotle. If you want fresh, good Mexican food, you are literally ever only a few miles away from wonderful establishments all over the Chicagoland area. Overrated, this specific establishment was rather slow as well. I do appreciate how the servers were welcoming and happily discussed what items were and weren't vegetarian. I tried the new Sofritas (seasoned tofu), which was okay but an admirable addition to their menu. Other than that, I don't find anything about Chipotle 'gourmet', other than their prices for mediocre food.
(3)H H.
woo i wish i could give a straight up ZERO. Ordered online, picked it up and received two burrito bowls that look like they were sitting in the sun for 24 hrs MIND YOU, i didnt even order a burrito bowl? Got my money back and took myself to another location. No customer service skills and there is literally always an issue going into this location.
(1)Susie C.
Typical franchise. This is close to home and my husband and I didn't want to have Potbellys for dinner so we came here. We had dinner here on a Friday night around 830pm and it was pretty busy. I had the chicken fajita bowl and my husband had the steak burrito. The lady in the front doesn't seem like she wanted to work. We got the attitude that she was tired and a bit lazy. Asked for a little sour cream and she gave us a lot. Had to repeat what we want twice because she didn't catch it in the beginning. This is just a fast food place so I didnt have high expectations.
(3)Kristin S.
Sometimes the wait is longer then should be and when already dealing with congestion on Lake street then it can feel frusterating but heck then a burrito makes anything better right? Its fresh fake mexican in the form of burritos and burritoless burritos in a bowl. Food is fresh and cooked in front of you, your meal is prepared made to order in front of you and every aspect is yours to customize your fake mexican food however you like with the ingredients. Limited seating with cafeteria style seats and tables which are usually clean. Bottles of hot sauce are available in the dining area but I wish they had to go packets beacuse it can be rather inconvenient if you are taking yours to go home.

I went to this location once before in the afternoon, and today as well, one thing that rubs me the wrong way (no pun intended). Is when customers reach over the glass and nearly lean over and into the food when they point out what they want. The "blast shield" at this location needs to be higher and extend towards the line more. Both times it was someone young who did it, both of the times the person looked like they could really use a shower. Unfortunately there is no sign or chipotle worker telling these people to not reach over the barrier. Plus, each time, the person (the first time) a young man and the second time a young lady were BOTH scratching themselves in their PRIVATE areas!! Yes in line and yes that was the hand they used to point with!!!!!! Luckily I had a witness with me the second time to see this and if that did not turn me off, seeing employees play with their hats and hair WHILE wearing gloves, the same gloves they used to make customer's food was a turn AND then cleaning off the counter by wiping it off with THOSE same gloves!!!! That was enough I walked out and down to Jerusalem Cafe where the service, customers and workers are clean, efficient and sanitary. Plus very loud, for example, the girl in front of me and my lady was busy twirling about and being loud and trying to add everyone in her conversation with her male friend. Ridiculous. Long lines both times be prepared to wait awhile.
(1)Yvonne B.
I've heard rumors that this is the busiest Chipotle. Like, anywhere. Or something like that. I believe it because it is pretty gosh darn busy. Long lines and crowded seating areas are common. The employees bustle along like a long established German train schedule. There is no idle chatter here! But there's also not much personal connection. What can I say about the food? I mean. It's a chain. It's probably just like any other Chipotle out there. When they first opened I always got burritos. Then I graduated to a burrito bowl. Now I like the salads, but I recently went back to the bowl. You see, I worry about the calories in this stuff. I'm not on a diet, but I'd rather save my high calorie meals for really GOOD food (you know - like a fancy restaurant that has table cloths). But as far as fast food goes I would probably choose Chipotle over many other places.
(3)Cintya P.
Chipotle is a great quick spot to grab something that is close enough to fix your craving to some beans and rice and tortillas :D. It's not the best, but it gets the job done. Close enough to walk where my apartment is when I don't have time to cook my own beans or rice :p.
(3)Meghan B.
I'm a fan of Chipotle in general, I frequent quite a few since I drive all over the burbs for work. This is the worst Chipotle I've been to. The employee are not attentive and forget about a smile. The service is typically slow and it's not because they're busy, it's because they have no sense of urgency or consideration for customers time. I go to the one in Oak Brook during lunchtime which is WAY busier and they rock the line!! Like other reviews I would agree the food is inconsistent and if you preorder you still will have to wait. If you're in the area and you really want Chipolte go to Melrose Park, it's clean, fast, and friendly.
(1)AJ O.
Ordered online in advance twice. On both occasions, my food was not ready when scheduled and the food wasn't made quite to order. Friendly staff and good food, but the online ordering process has some wrinkles to be addressed at this location.
(3)Kat D.
When we went there ( we moved) they were so used to us come in there after my swim team practices, they remembered my order. I got a little tired of the meat so I stopped ordering it and just got sour cream, green salsa, cheese, and white rice. Since I didn't order meat they charged us less! Miss them..
(5)Gary S.
This is the busiest Chipotle I've experienced, but also the worst managed store...long lines, slow service, often out of ingredients, and uncaring staff. As busy as it always seems to be, it seems they don't expect the crowds. I never see a manager on or near the front lines...no one seems to be in charge. It would be great, as someone else suggested, to let people know they are out of something...rice, for instance!...instead of having us wait in line for 15 minutes just to be disappointed when you eventually get to the front. Wake up Chipotle and please fix this store!!!
(1)Mark E.
The place was full of high school students when we went for lunch. How did these kids swing an off-campus lunch policy? Oh well. As far as Chipotles go, this was by no means the best one I've been to. I had a bizarre and awkward interaction when I ordered carnitas tacos, and she said the carnitas meat wasn't ready yet, but the other employee was almost done preparing it. So I said, no big deal, I'm not that picky, and pretty much everything here is good, so let's just do chicken instead, keep the line moving, ya know? Plus, who wants to be 'that guy?' But for some reason she was insistent that it was almost ready, and just to hang on, so I stood there for, like, a full awkward minute, holding up the line, while we waited for this girl to finish hand-pulling the meat and putting it into the container. It was painful. The worst part? While eating, I was kicking myself for ordering the carnitas in the first place, because the meat was way over-seasoned, and chicken or steak would have been a much safer bet..
(2)Lisa B.
My daughter is obsessed with Chipotle, and though I usually discourage the whole fast-food/chain concept, I can agree to eat here. Sure, it's not as authentic as a mom-and-pop tacqueria, but I'll bet the meat from those authentic places come from factory farms and are full of antibiotics and hormones. Chipotle makes an effort to use healthier, sustainably-sourced meat, and I have to support any company that does that. And whatever that lime/salt combo is that they use on their chips? Totally addictive.
(4)Liz W.
It's Chipotle what else is there to say. I've been here several times for lunch and it's always consistent. I always get the chicken burrito bowl, but with some adjustments. I ask for only a little bit of this or extra that and the staff never gives me an attitude. It's not authentic mexican food, but it's great american mexican food.
(4)Cassie S.
I go here far, far too often. It is in a great location--and has a lot of competition--but is one of the best places in downtown as far as speedily providing good, healthy food for the tired, malnourished yuppie/grad student who doesn't get home in time to cook. I am a Weight Watchers member with a rabidly environmentalist sister (which is a good thing, I acknowledge)--and this place can appease both these important parties in my life while still being fast, cheap, and delicious. If you're trying to eat healthy, I recommend googling around for their nutrition info--there's a marvelous calculator someone's set up so that you can figure out exactly what happens if you put this that or the other on your order. It's amazing how much difference the burrito wrapper and the sour cream make... and you stop missing them. Also, good for people watching. For instance: I repeatedly saw a middle-schooler in a ghillie suit at this Chipotle or capering on the street nearby and making faces in the windows last summer. I would have worried about him... but he was always surrounded by friends who appeared to be laughing with him. Even more entertaining than the brooding young man frequently to be found smoking outside of the Jerusalem Cafe down the street. Sometimes you just want to pinch the cute fat cheeks of the town of Oak Park and make cooing noises.
(4)Mair A.
I am a HUGE Chipotle fan, so it makes me sad to give it only 1 star, but this particular location sucks. I've been there twice and both times it was awful. The workers all move at a snail's pace- that is when they are moving and not just standing around. They do not know how to make the food, they are always out of something, and overall have the worst workers/management.
(1)Dave C.
Slowest Chipotle EVER! I've been to dozens of Chipotle's and this is consistently the slowest and worst service. It's a shame.
(1)Mike D.
Have been coming here since it opened like 7 or 8 years ago. This chipotle has always had great food, and the workers are great. Parking is easy, there is a parking garage right next to it that is free for the first hour, and there is a parking lot across the street. Never have had a problem. I don't know how any chipotle could have only a 3 star review...
(5)A.J. G.
Food is great for fast food, but the service here is terrible. There's no sense of urgency here. They are always out of one or two things, always long lines that stretch to the doors. The staff really needs to be replace or coached. Management seems to not care. Done with this place!
(1)Kelly S.
chain schmain. who cares. i too love authentic mexican food, but i have to get my Chipotle fix at least once every couple of weeks. the staff here does a great job keeping up with the long lines and keeping the place clean. that girl with the pink hair (manager?) seems like she runs a tight ship. food is consistent, and I know it's a sure thing every time I go.
(4)Bandar b.
it's pretty good, the food it was very delicious, and the price it's good, i had a great meal there. and my friend he said that he has been there three time, and he liked the food there, and he would go there again
(4)Michael A.
Everything about this Chipotle is good. When you enter, you are greeted with cool air conditioning, wood floors, and a very well designed dining area. Every time I am greeted with a "Welcome to Chipotle, what would you like?" And every time the cashier smiles when I pay. The food is excellent for the price. It's just under $7 for a burrito or bowl. My only gripe is that they don't give you bigger portions if you opt out of other things. A burrito with everything is at least a centimeter wider than a burrito without everything. I ask for extra cheese because I don't always get lettuce and sometimes they give it to me. Maybe I'll just get a burrito bowl, the portions in those look bigger. I used to go here when the guacamole was free, nowadays they charge for it. I don't mind though since I never eat guac. If you need an alternative to Five Guys or Pot Belly, this Chipotle is the place to go.
(5)Justyna K.
I used to be against Chipotle. That is, until I tried the veggie burrito bowl. Yum! Sometimes when I come here and I am the only one in line, there is this one employee who layers on that guac just how I like it! O yeaaa! Keep me coming back for more! But in all seriousness, no matter how busy they are they keep the line moving. And I always manage to find a quick parking spot (illegal or not) right outside. Score!
(4)Andrea B.
Ok seriously, why is it so damn hot in here? The restaurant always feels like 110 degrees, I shouldn't be sweating just standing in line. The problem I have with the meat is that some of it like the steak for example doesn't seem to be top quality meat. And its cute into wierd chunks that look like dog food, which isn't appealing in any sense. I had the shredded beef tacos and those were okay, I like the option of corn on them. Only thing is they don't give you much meat in the tacos or burritos and they charge for avocado! Now thats ridic, I mean the food is already waaaayyy overpriced. What really upset me was that they don't have corn tortillas, how can you not have corn tortillas?? I don't like crunchy ones and definitely not flour. This is just depressing. This is definitely not real Mexican food. Its more like an American's version of Mexican food, but with less quality meat.
(3)Suzen R.
Wonderful service. Knowledgeable staff. As a person with multiple food allergies this is important. I LOVE eating here! They changed their recipes and put soy on all their food.
(1)Joel G.
This is a pretty typical Chipotle. There is usually some sort of line since it's on a pretty busy street. The line goes pretty quickly. The workers are pretty efficient in taking your order and preparing your food. There is seating within the restaurant so you can dine in. The food is good and the drinks are cold and it tastes like Chipotle.
(4)Anne K.
Contracted SEVERE case of food poisoning from this store (likely salmonella, and likely from a lettuce and/or chicken product). Correspondence with this store about this issue was frustrating and difficult. I was laid up for several days; lost work; paid babysitters overtime; all because of an error made in someone's kitchen. The food poisoning was so severe, it would have sent a child to the hospital, and yet this store seemed more concerned about asking me to fill out forms (3 days later!) than they were with actually investigating the cause and solution of the problem. I usually like Chipotle very much, and I've been a customer of theirs for years. But I would caution against going to this store, mainly for health reasons.
(1)Michael T.
This is the only consistently good Chipotle in the area which is now between the portions are tiny Melrose Park and the brand new always out of white rice Berwyn stores. Always clean, always good portions, always fresh and are quick to throw the ne'er-do-wells out The Oak Park store is the one to continue to go to.
(4)Michael W.
South of the border? Maybe not. But it was well north of 85 degrees when I stepped inside this Mexican free-range burrito chain on a wintry weekend. Crazy hot. The temp inside as well as the food. So hot that everybody in there seemed comfortably underdressed. Mini-skirts, teeny gym shorts. Why not? Just flip over on a bench to get an even tan. Eating an overpriced, but delicious carnitas burritos caused me to break out into a sweat. Yeah, I know Chipotle is a chain. I've been to different one. (Always wearing aluminium foil on Halloween, of course.) But consider, it's right next to a Bar Louie. So by contrast, it's not a bad choice at all. And the people were pretty cool to hook my kid up with a baby meal. Gracias, oddly hair-dyed chica.
(3)AllAround C.
I am not a big Chipotle fan. Once you have had real Mexican food, the restaurant chains are tasteless. It is a pretentious Taco Bell. Did anyone mention the temperature to the manager? My God, I thought I stepped into hell! Every time I have gone the lines were long. I enjoy their chips and guacamole, but I can now go to TJ and buy that. I suggest people get out of their comfort zone and try authentic Mexican and Puerto Rican food from different neighborhoods in Chicago. This is really not Mexican food.
(2)Bridgette K.
The gucamole is still good. But their portions became very little from the last time I came in. They are not generous anymore with the serving amount. The workers their act like they don't even want to be there. I wish they would go back to as I remember. Friendly, great portions and warmer food.
(3)Sam S.
Overpriced, underspiced pseudo-Mexican food. The only thing Mexican about it is its name. Air tastes better than the salad with pork, for example. Its prime location should be occupied by better restaurants.
(1)Kasia R.
this place is pretty good.. I've only had burritos from here, but they were good. You can also get a beer or a margarita if you are eating in. Fast and friendly service. The chips and salsa are pretty good too.
(4)
